Alexandria senna is a perennial herb native to India.
Alexandria senna is a member of Fabaceae plant family. Formerly this was classified as cassia Acutifolia but presently is known as Senna Alexandrina. This is a small shrub with angular branches. The leaves are 5-8 leaflets, ovate lanceolet, glabrous. Racemes are axillary in addition, many flowered. The flowers are bright yellow in color. The legumes are flat and the seeds are obviated.
Usage:
The leaves are mild and safe laxatives. The leaves are useful in leukemia. The herb yields a glucoside namely sennoside. The leaves are useful as Ayurvedic herbal medicine.
